GATES CAMBRIDGE SCHOLARSHIPS 2023-2024 program are now accepted for the 2023-2024 academic year.Selected candidates will have the chance to complete a Master’s or Doctorate at the University of Cambridge.

The mission of the Gates Cambridge program is to build a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others. It aims to achieve this mission by selecting exceptional scholarship holders, providing them with financial and non-financial support at one of the best universities in the world and facilitating the development of the community in Cambridge and beyond.

This year, and as every year, Gates Cambridge offers 80 fully funded scholarships to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree (master’s or doctorate) in any field of study available at the University of Cambridge. About two-thirds of these scholarships will be offered to doctoral students. About 25 scholarships will be available for American students and 55 for students from the rest of the world.

You can apply for a Gates Cambridge scholarship if you are:

  • A citizen of any country outside the United Kingdom.
  • You plan to apply for one of the full-time residential courses at the University of Cambridge: Doctorate, Master, MLitt or a one-year postgraduate course.

In addition to the above criteria, you must demonstrate:

  • Academic excellence.
  • An exceptional intellectual capacity.
  • The reasons for choosing the course.
  • A commitment to improving the lives of others.
  • A potential for leadership.


The Gates Cambridge scholarships cover all study costs at Cambridge. They also provide additional and discretionary funding.

Basic funding:

  • Registration fees at the University of Cambridge.
  • An allowance worth £18,744 for 12 months. For doctoral students, the scholarship is valid for up to four years.
  • A single plane ticket in economy class at the beginning and end of the course.
  • The entrance visa fee and the cost of the immigration health surcharge.
  • Other on-demand financing:
  • Gates Cambridge scholarships also consider applications for several types of additional funding on a discretionary basis:
  • Academic development funding: from £500 to a maximum of £2,000, to attend conferences and courses.
  • Family allowance: up to £10,944 for one child and up to £15,612 for two or more children. No funding for a partner.
  • Field work: you can ask to keep your normal maintenance allowance during your field work as part of your doctorate.
  • Maternity/Paternity: you can request to interrupt your studies for up to 6 months and continue to receive your allowance during this period
  • Financing in case of difficulties: for the unforeseen difficulties faced by the candidate.
  • All candidates except U.S. citizens and residents:
  • Opening of applications: September 15, 2022.
  • Application deadline: depending on your course, either December 01, 2022 or January 05, 2023.
  • Result of the application: before Friday, March 3, 2023.
  • Scholarships offered: end of March.
  • Acceptance of scholarships: 72 hours after the offer.
  • U.S. citizens and residents of the United States:
  • Opening of applications: September 15, 2022.
  • Application deadline: October 12, 2022.
  • Result of the application: before Friday, December 9, 2022.
  • Scholarships offered: end of January 2023.
  • Acceptance of scholarships: 72 hours after the offer.
  • Before applying, you must do in-depth research on the course you plan to pursue, including its requirements, deadlines and supporting documents. You will find information on all courses available at the University of Cambridge in the Course Directory.
  • Then, you must submit your application via the application portal.
  • If you plan to apply for a doctoral program, you must discuss your research project with a potential supervisor. To find and contact a supervisor, follow the following steps:
  • Using the course directory, choose the desired program.
  • On the program web page, scroll to the “Key Information” section and click on “Course on Department Website“.
  • Now, in the menu, look for a link named “CDT board”, or “Contact”, or “Aedic Team” (the name of the link differs depending on the program). You will find the email address of a supervisor you can contact.
  • If you are pre-selected for an interview, know that you have ” survived” an extremely competitive process. This way, you will be invited to an interview of 20 to 25 minutes and, depending on where you are, you can talk in person or via Microsoft Skype.
